Of course there is no rule that says you need to buy ever tool ever invented. Start with a few basics and work your way up to the larger and more expensive tools that are out there. Simple human strength is usually all that is really needed to accomplish most gardening tasks. All you really need is your hands and arms if you want to move dirt and plants from point A to point B. Working with only your hands and arms is great but it can do a lot of harm to your body after a while so you should use tools instead to ease the strain on your limbs. A soil tester is a very valuable tool for farmers who practice crop rotation because the soil tester will tell you which plot will work for which plants from year to year.
Figuring out which gardening tools you need can take some time. When you are a beginner you will be tempted to buy everything available. Don't get duped or give in to temptation: start small and then add tools as you find uses for them. This way you won't have to worry about spending too much money or wasting valuable storage space. Before you realize what has happened you'll be able to look at your gardening tools and instinctively know which tools you need to complete your tasks.
