Five Ideal Dating Spots in Kazan You Don’t Want to Miss

1. Söyembikä Tower or the Khan’s Mosque

Ponder matters of the heart with your date when you visit the legendary Suyumbike Tower.

According to legend, after Ivan the Terrible seized Kazan, he wanted to celebrate by taking the dethroned Khan’s niece, Princess Suyumbike.

Suyumbike wasn’t impressed with the proposal, so she devised a plan. The princess assured Ivan that she’d accept the marriage proposal only if he could build the tallest tower either of them had ever seen—to which Ivan obliged.

After erecting the spire in just six days, Princess Suyumbike insisted on taking in the city view from the high tower. Upon reaching the top, she immediately flung herself off. She insulted him by proving that he could take the city all he wanted, but he could never have her heart.

While this fable has lingered for many centuries now, the tower’s construction didn’t happen at least a hundred years after Ivan’s conquest of Kazan in 1552.

Although it isn’t possible to go inside the tower, your date will surely be crushed when you tell them the story.
