Now that you know how to use your humidifier, it is time to determine how often you need to use it. If your cigars are too dry, it’s time to add some humidity. If they feel spongy or soft, they can be re-humidified. But if they are still firm and stiff, leave them alone! For a medium-sized humidor, leave the pack in for 2 days if the figure on the side of the pack reads 40% or below.

Leave it in for 1 day if above 40%. For a large-sized humidor, leave the pack in for 3 days when it reads 30% or lower; otherwise, follow the steps.  If you put new cigars in your case or humidor, you can use a new humidity pack with the new cigars. This is because the humidity inside of your closed container will drop as it absorbs moisture from the fresh tobacco.

As long as there is no way for this moisture to escape, it will eventually reach equilibrium at around 65% relative humidity. If you are using a humidifier instead of or in addition to these packs, this is an ideal amount of moisture and shouldn’t require additional maintenance.
