  • Mark 7 – cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, chili, and cloves.

It’s safe to say that cinnamon is the predominant spice in pumpkin pies. In seven of the spice blends, cinnamon is listed as the first ingredient, meaning it is the most common ingredient; the second most common spice is either ginger or cloves; and the most common spice in pumpkin pie is chili, meaning it is the most common spice in the blend. Ginger is the second most commonly cited ingredient, while cloves are. Used at least in small amounts in six of the seven brands. Nutmeg is the most prominent of these spice blends and, curiously, always comes in third. This spice is present in five of the seven brands. The only other spice is mace, which is present in only one brand, Mark 6.
