Is Rainbow Moonstone Real Moonstone?

It turns out there is no real clear answer to that question. In fact, a lot of people use moonstone when they really mean both ruby stone. The reason for such confusion is because one (natural) or both (synthetic and natural) can be called Moonstone. But why would anyone want two kinds? And what is their difference? Let’s find out!

Where does Rainbow Moonstone Come From?

Much like other gems, Rainbow Moonstone is found in specific locations. Most often, you’ll find it in Brazil and Madagascar. When it comes to distinguishing real from fake, there are a few ways that you can tell. Read on for more information about Rainbow Moonstone!

How Does it Get Colored?

It’s natural coloring is due to its impurities, namely titanium and iron. Those elements cause a chemical reaction with silicon in heat and pressure, which results in a color-changing gem. If a rainbow moonstone hasn’t undergone that process yet, it will look like an ordinary white stone. Many people prefer these stones because they haven’t undergone any artificial coloring processes or treatments; they want a real Moonstone (that isn’t dyed). The most popular use for rainbow moonstones is jewelry since their color variations make them beautiful as necklaces or earrings—and sometimes as brooches or rings. However, you can also find some other items made from rainbow moonstone such as candle holders and paperweights.

Is Natural Rainbow Moonstone Expensive?

The most expensive type of Moonstone is often said to be rainbow Moonstone. Yet many people disagree as to whether it even exists at all. Is Natural Rainbow Moonstone Expensive? Natural rainbow Moonstones can fetch up to $2,500 per carat in their natural state but with a treatment process they can go as high as $5,000 per carat; however some only raise them by $200-300 per carat and others don’t make them more expensive than ordinary Moonstones at all. So what is rainbow Moonstone (natural or treated) really worth? Find out here!

How do I Care for My Rainbow Stone?

All you need to clean your rainbow moonstone is a little dish soap, warm water and a soft sponge. If your stone has a brownish tint to it, try soaking it in a mixture of vinegar and water for about 15 minutes before rinsing it off with warm water. Scrub gently with your sponge and then rinse again until there’s no soap left on the stone. After you’ve dried your stone, store it in its included pouch or box in a cool, dry place away from any direct sunlight. Be careful not to drop or bang it against hard surfaces since chips will eventually form around sharp edges like corners; avoid wearing jewelry if you know you tend to bump into things often. And be sure to take your rainbow moonstone off before showering or swimming so that it doesn’t get wet. It can handle being worn while washing dishes or taking a bath but don’t leave it submerged in water for too long.

How Do I Clean It?

The best way to clean Rainbow Moonstone is by using a non-abrasive gem cleaner specifically formulated for silica and feldspar, which is what Rainbow Moonstone contains. Be sure to rinse your jewelry with cold water after each cleaning session and allow your jewelry to dry naturally. The general rule of thumb when it comes to cleaning gems and minerals is: if you can’t wipe it off or if you aren’t sure if you should wipe it off, don’t. Most materials will eventually polish themselves given enough time! If in doubt, however, give us a call or send us an email and we’ll be glad to walk you through it! We have over 40 years combined experience when it comes to cleaning gems and minerals. Just ask! 🙂

Can I Wear it Every Day?

Jewelry experts would say that Moonstone is best suited for occasional use and not everyday wear. This means that its durability and hardness can’t quite match those of white Topaz or Cubic Zirconia. However, Moonstone ranks above most other gemstones for toughness and durability, making it a fantastic choice for jewelry if you don’t plan on wearing it every day. As long as you avoid dropping your jewelry in hot water or using harsh chemicals to clean it, you should be able to enjoy your purchase for years to come. Just make sure you store it properly when you aren’t wearing it!

Where Should I Buy It Online and in Person?

When it comes to buying gemstones, location is everything. It isn’t enough to simply buy a piece online and assume that you’re getting what you paid for. Many people confuse lab-created crystals with natural stones, but there are stark differences between them. While lab-created gems may look realistic and inexpensive, they lack a lot of what makes natural gems so special: value and beauty. Real gemstones have an intrinsic value that cannot be replicated in a lab—in fact, it’s illegal to sell synthetic gemstones as real stones without labeling them as such.
